PostSubject: Celtic Legends Vs Liverpool Legends   Tue Oct 03, 2006 5:22 pm

THE Dynamic Duo of Tommy Burns and Billy Stark teamed up once more at Paradise today on the eve of the Legends match when the superstars of yesteryear lock horns with Celtic taking on Liverpool.

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, October 4, supporters will get the opportunity to enjoy a trip down memory lane as the Celtic and Liverpool’s championship-winning sides of 1986 take to the field again.

The teams will be managed by Kenny Dalglish and David Hay, and some great names of the past will also be on show such as Danny McGrain, Brian McClair, Mark McGhee and Peter Grant for Celtic, with the Liverpool team featuring Anfield legends such as Ian Rush, Alan Hansen, Jan Molby and Peter Beardsley.

All proceeds raised will go to Celtic Charity Fund, the charitable arm of Celtic Football Club, with some of the many beneficiaries including registered charities nominated by the family of Celtic legend Jimmy Johnstone, as well as the Marina Dalglish Appeal, which has been set up by Kenny’s wife to assist breast cancer charities.

And, as you can imagine, Burns who is on duty with Scotland this week wasn’t taking the questions too seriously as two sets of aching limbs get set to face each other here at Celtic Park.

He said of his former Celtic team-mates who are limbering up for tomorrow night’s match: “There are some very interesting names and some of them can think themselves very lucky that they are there - going by some of their last performances!

“But seriously, it’s a good opportunity for people to come along and cast their minds back down memory lane.

“Probably, in some instances, they’ll have to cast them back a helluva long time but it will be good fun and I think the most important thing is that people will benefit from it.

“I think that the game has been well publicised and hopefully people will come up in good numbers, and I’m sure they will.

“I’m sure there will be a good turn out, the Celtic support are well aware of the game and they know what it means.

“They know the people associated with it, it’s all Celtic-minded people and it’s all for a good cause.

“The Celtic support have always lent themselves to good causes and charitable concerns in the past so I’m sure they will turn up in good numbers.”

He added: “I know Billy keeps himself in good nick but I’m actually very concerned about some of the guys that are going to be performing here!

“I may come to the game, I may not come to the game, but one thing is for sure, I’ll be here tonight digging the trenches to help the lads because I think it will be a bit of an onslaught with all these Liverpool guys.

“Some of them have not long stopped playing so it will be interesting.”

Whenever these ‘old crock’ games arise, they always beg the obvious question – is the current team better than the old Bhoys at their prime.

The normally tactful and diplomatic Burns wasn’t prepared to sit on the fence with this one though.

He answered: “I don’t think we would ever tell the guys now that they are a better team than us.

“I think that you’re always judged on what you win and I keep telling them that if they get a week off training they can come up and see our medals!

“So until such times as they win as many medals as Starky and I then, we’re the best, that’s it.”

The game kicks off at 7.45.

The full squad lists for tomorrow night are:

CELTIC: Pat Bonner, Peter Latchford, Danny McGrain, Willie McStay, Lex Bailie, Derek Whyte, Murdo MacLeod, Joe Miller, Peter Grant, Brian McClair, Andy Walker, Mark McGhee, Billy Stark, Tom Boyd, Owen Archdeacon, Tony Shepherd, Frank McAvennie, Tosh McKinlay, Darren Jackson.

Looks to be a good match, as a supporter of both teams, i'm not picking any team just going for both. But i have to say it will be nice to see those legends back on the pitch again, even if they can hardly walk never mind run or kick a ball.
